Poor Timing

So I was all gung-ho about doing the detox and then life happened and I never did get started....that being said, however, I have diligently aware of what I have been eating and sticking to eating relatively clean, I just have not been doing the detox as of yet.

So, what has kept me so incredibly busy you ask?

Busy Excuse #1:  Ballet Recital!!

Since the recital was on Sunday, this meant we had regular class on Thursday, rehearsal on Friday, dress rehearsal Sunday morning, pictures Sunday day, and then the actual recital at night.

We did quite an amazing job I think and I am so excited to get our video to see how we did in the eyes of others.  All I can say is that I was a bit in tears prior to and after the dance, not from nerves or sadness, but of joy.  I accomplished something that scared me shitless.  I dressed up in a leotard, tights, and a tutu and danced my 240lbs frame across that stage.  I was not only proud of me, but also all of the gorgeous women in my class!  All different levels of ballet and dance and all came at it with dedication, commitment, and grace.  I am so excited for next year!!  I am actually going to take ballet again, but I am also going to enroll in the modern dance class to get even more experience.

Busy Excuse #2: My sister had her baby!!

Cori and newly arrived, Nolan James, made it home safely last Wednesday and we were all there to welcome him to the family.  If you haven't seen this video of his sister welcome him to the family yet, you definitely need to!

So, needless to say I have been bopping back and forth to their house and mine to see Mr. Nolan as he won't stay little for long!

Busy Excuse #3: IT'S FINALLY SUPER NICE OUTSIDE!!!

This means I have taken to the streets with my bike!  That's right, I am not about to waste this beautiful weather by sitting inside (all the time, anyway).  Yesterday, Ryan and I even picked up some stellar helmets which I am soooo pumped about....and I find that these ones are cuter and maybe will set the expectation for drivers that I am not a speed racer, but rather someone that likes to cruise along (plus it came with a cardboard squirrel!!).  I feel the traditional bike helmets may set a higher expectation for speed....

But seriously, if you are ever in the need of bike equipment, head over to Woodcock Cycle on St. Mary's Rd.  They were extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and they are local!!  I will also use this excuse to remind everyone else to get their full intake of water now that the weather is heating up!!  Stay hydrated to stay cool.

Busy Excuse #4: I have been shooting a lot lately, helping out other photographers and just utilizing this beautiful weather we have been having.  With shooting comes editing and that is a massive time eater for me.  I am also getting back into daily(ish) self portraits so that is keeping my pretty busy as well.

All of these excuses have taken place within the span of 1 week, which is crazy to think.  That being said, however, the summer is only just starting to ramp up and I best prepare myself for the craziness that is yet to come (hello, August with 4 weddings and living in Swan River!)  In 2 days I leave for a 10 day trip to BC/Seattle to become more knowledgeable in the ways of the blog, get my boudoir photos done, and meet up with some friends I made while at Creative Live in January!  It will be a ton of fun!  So at this point I am postponing my detox until I am back from my trip at which time I will be more than ready for it!  Enjoy the lovely weather!!

Spring into Summer Detox!

G'day my friends!  Since my last post about my cookie binge, I am not very proud to say that I have consumed even more and even worse things since then.  This past weekend I held my first Photography Camp and of course, we ate "camp" food.  While the main meals consisted of relatively good stuff (chili made with turkey or ground round), homemade soup from 2 Broke Gals Soup Company, bacon, eggs, and toast, etc.  It was the mindless snacking in between, at night, and there may have been a wee bit of alcohol involved.

That being said, however, we walked A LOT, and I definitely noticed that when you do not fuel your body with the right stuff, your workouts become a thousand times more difficult.  I was essentially outside all day for 2.5 days which was awesome!! We had great weather, we got to be consistently creative, and we found out more about each other as artists (which is always fun!)

When I came home, however, I had EXTREME bloating in my feet....like extreme.  At first I thought it was a result of all the walking I had been doing, but it literally lasted 2 full days and that's when I realized something wasn't quite right.  Around that time, I had received an email from Heather (my friend and holistic health coach that I wrote about before) offering a Spring detox and I signed up!

So, to get myself on track and the undo what I did to myself on the weekend, I am taking the plunge into the detox to feel a bit better.  My favorite thing about this detox (after reading the welcome packet) is that it's a detox for EVERYTHING...there is meditation, vision boards to be made, affirmations to say, body care, and of course healthy eating.

I will be using this platform as a journal, as one of the requirements of the detox is to write down the recipes, how I feel, etc. (similar to what I used to do when I started this blog).  I also want to emphasize that this detox is not to lose weight, but rather to get my body in the right state to take on my busy summer!!

Today is my shopping day for all the delicious items on the list and the end of this detox will be when I head out for my trip to Seattle/BC and I am so excited that I will have these habits in place and the fresh mindset to keep me going while I am out there!

WISH ME LUCK!!

Catching Up

So, it's been about a week since my last blog post and it isn't because I have been dreading telling you my sinful ways of shoving sugar into my mouth hole, but rather it is because I have been busy traveling to Regina, enjoying the beautiful weather, and hanging out with my family and friends.  My life is picking up (as I expected) and I have to get things under control, eating consistently, drinking enough water, and taking my supplements regularly.

While in Regina, we stayed at Ryan's parents house, but alas, his mom was not there to cook for us, so there were a plethora of restaurant meals.  Luckily, my friend Bobbie cooked a delicious healthy meal for us one night and Ryan and I finally BBQ'd some turkey burgers.  I do have to say, though, that there were a few days where I consumed almost a whole loaf of bread to myself....2 pieces of toast in the morning, a sandwich for lunch, and then garlic bread with supper....YIKES!  Let me tell you, as soon as I got home I loaded my fridge with greens and fruit.  I couldn't get enough!

How happy is everyone to be seeing and feeling the sun??!!  Seriously, I was so happy yesterday and I even got a bit of a tan (I know, I know, the sun is bad, yadayada...but I like it!)  Yesterday we spent the day at my sister's celebrating Jeff's 30th birthday party and I did, sadly, consume large quantities of not so good food.  But hey, it was a party.  I also decided not to drink because I would rather eat some desserts hahaha!
This is a dessert my sister whipped up...looks healthy because of the apples, but the middle is cream cheese, toffee sauce, Skor bits, and chocolate chips.  It was very addicting.

Earlier in that day, I attended a Steeped Tea Party hosted by my old friend, Tenniel at my best friend, Stephanie's condo!  We got to taste some delicious teas and there is SO much variety!  I ended up ordering a mint julip tea after reading that spearmint tea can help with hirsutism (excessive hair growth caused by increased androgens...one of the symptoms of PCOS).  Apparently, 2 cups of spearmint tea a day over a period of 3-6 months can drastically reduce the amount of androgen production.  You can read a bit about it here.  In this particular study, it states within 5 days you will notice a difference, so I am excited to see how it works or if it works at all!

I ordered a bunch of new books from Amazon in regards to PCOS and am slowly making my way through them.  They are, however, quite interesting reads and if anyone wants to borrow them when I am done, just shoot me an email!  In addition to the books, I have also stumbled upon a few other gold mines about PCOS information, one of them being a great blog dedicated to PCOS!  There is great diet info, meal plans, and scientific knowledge that is written in an easy to understand manner.  If you are intrigued to learn more about PCOS check out that blog!

I will admit that my exercise has been lacking significantly the last 2 weeks and yes, I have made extreme excuses, but to be honest, I just cannot pull myself out of bed to get my ass to gym any more.  I just need to do it.  I swear to God, if I could get healthy by thinking about being active, that'd be stellar.  Some days I just feel like a slug.  Now that it is nice out, I have absolutely no excuses.
While I was out in Regina, however, Ryan and I did go on a bit of an adventure to Moose Jaw where we spent the day touring the tunnels and kicking it at the mineral spa.  It was super relaxing and a great way to enjoy spending time with my lova!

Anyhow, I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend, enjoying the weather and celebrating Mother's Day and their mom-like figures!  Catch up with you soon :D
